Ribble Valley Walking Weekend

At 557 metres, Pendle Hill dominates the surrounding Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From the summit of Pendle Hill on a clear day views of the Cumbrian Fells and Yorkshire Peaks can be seen. This inspirational mound has a long and dramatic history, which dates all the way back to the Bronze Age - an ancient burial site was discovered at the summit of Pendle Hill. However, it is the sensational events of the Pendle Witches which celebrates its 400 yr anniversary in 2012 that Pendle Hill is best known for. At 1230ft of ascent and descent, and 6 miles in distance, the grading of the walk is an easy moderate and well within the abilities of people who are not necessarily hill walkers but are reasonably fit.

After a days rewarding walking in Lancashire's hill country then the perfect compliment is to enjoy an evening meal of Lancashire Hotpot one of England's best loved dishes.

Sunday walk: Riverside pastures, Salmon Fishing, Grand Houses, historical bridges, and the home of JR Tolkien who wrote the 'Lord of the Rings' creator JR Tolkien, are all trademarks of this walk in the heart of the Ribble Valley. Direct from the hotel we follow the rivers of the Ribble and Hodder taking in refreshing open countryside and finishing in the stunning grounds of the internationally famous Stonyhurst College, a stunning 16th century Jesuit boarding school where JR Tolkien once taught.
